My son Brandon was diagnosed at birth with multiple congenital heart defects including a single ventricle, common atrium, and dextrocardia. Has undergone five surgeries: three days, seven days, 14 days, 18 months and 6 years or age on the last day of kindergarten.
He is now 15 yrs old, a 2nd degree blackbelt in Tang Soo do, plays golf and baseball, loves to listen to music and play the drums. He is not on any medication, has no restrictions and only requires annual testing to ensure his heart is functioning properly.
Brandon and his best friend, Thomas, were in NICU beds 1 & bed 2 at birth. They had heart surgery by Dr. Richard Mainwaring and Dr. John Lamberti on the same day. Today, they are both 15, best friends, honor students and were accepted into the same high school.
Brandon speaks on behalf of Rady Children's Hospital San Diego and CHIfund to help raise awareness and to raise money. In sharing his story , he hopes to help and encourage other children and families effected by heart disease.

I am mom to 22-year-old Alexia, DORV and multiple VSD's repaired in 1990. We live in Sacramento. I am very good friends with Dr. Rick Mainwaring as he and Dr. Lamberti did my daughter's Aortic valve replacement 2 1/2 years ago. I am active in his Peds Heart Surgery program at Sutter Medical center. I help run a support group, I coordinate his heart reunions and a Fall symposium for parents. I loved watching this video. Those boys are awesome, nice young men. My baby, Alexa, was born with TGA, VSD and PS. Had her heart surgery at 2 weeks and will be having another when she turns about 1 year. Love seeing older children living with CHD, gives me hope. My daughter will also need multiple surgeries for conduit replacement. Would even love to add this video to my blog if possible. Thanks.
